People are in pain for a lot of reasons, sometimes it is physical, sometimes it’s emotional, and sometimes it is nutritional. But those aren’t the three I’m talking about.

Those are some heavy hitters, but they are way too obvious. What fun is that. These are a culmination of story after story from random strangers I met at the safe kids fair this past weekend.

For two days I talked to dozens and dozens of people about one thing, PAIN. We talked about every kind of pain imaginable and everyone except a few people had neck pain or low back pain.

That’s really no surprise, a lot people not going to a chiropractor regularly have either one of those.

So here are my most surprising top 3 reasons for pain from the show this weekend.

#1 OLD car accidents. It was insane how many people were in car accidents 4,5 or even 10 years ago and never got any help. Here is a simple rule to follow, after any car accident please go see a chiropractor. It is pretty rare for a medical doctor to recommend someone to see a chiropractor so you’ll have to remember that one yourself.

The longer you wait to get help after a car accident, the more chronic the injuries become. Also, the longer you wait, the more it will cost you. If you wait too long, instead of having an insurance company pay for your injuries, you will have to pay for it yourself.

So the lesson here is Car accident = chiropractic visit. You are more than welcome to call me if you have questions 801-512-7394.

#2 More than 80% of the people I talked to have never seen a chiropractor. This was an astounding statistic to me. Chiropractic is a safe, natural alternative treatment to many health problems. How do we know it is so safe?

There are a few ways, but one big one is how much our malpractice costs. Based on insurance statistics, danger in seeing a chiropractor is a mere fraction of the risks in seeing a traditional medical doctor.

Considering all the pain people were walking around with, I have a lot more community out reach to do.

#3 Bad Husbands. I know that seems harsh, but I don’t have any easy way to put it. Maybe you know of a nicer way to talk about letting your spouse suffer. It was a very bizarre trend. Strange enough for me to write about.

I know I’m not just imaging this because there were two of us there and we both noticed the same thing. The wife came in and wanted to get help and she’d talk to her husband and he’d shake his head and they’d walk off.

This is not an isolated incident. I really would like to write a lot more about this subject because “strongly encouraging your wife to suffer needlessly” just isn’t right. If you want more, just send me an email.

So, in a wrap up, call if you get in an accident or are tired of suffering from one. If you have a health problem you are tired of, don’t wait until you see me in person to schedule a visit. Lastly, just sneak into the office if you have to. We have underground tunnels from Astroburger.

What are some of the characteristics of people that consistently look and feel great? Is it even worth it? Is it something anyone can learn?

Yes, it is. Except in rare cases, being healthy is a learned skill and unfortunately being healthy isn’t for everyone. Here are three basic things to give your body a leg up.

1. Anyone can learn to be healthy. With study, it may take years. I have personally seen a patient take the bull by the horns and turn their life around in one day, rare, but doable. In reality only a few will do it. Why so few take the leap is a real puzzle to me.

2. Is it worth doing? That depends on your desires. Do you want to look good? Good clothes and a nice haircut will make most people twice as beautiful, but I’m talking about the radiance of health. You know the look, the nice skin, bright eyes, and an energy to their movement. If you get the surprised “holy cow, what ditch did you crawl out of?”, look, then you have some explaining to do. Not that you have to. But, I’m just saying it can be better.

3. The crazy, mad, skills,

#1 This is where it all begins. Desire. In a psychology study, they found that 28% of people they studied had enough knowledge to make healthy choices, but still didn’t. This astounded me. When I walk through a grocery store I see very few carts with a bunch of fruit and veggies. The last study I saw had people buying more dog food than fruits. What this really means is that the pain to change isn’t large enough to overcome the pain to remain the same. I think this is why people get to be 600 lbs. and others smoke for 50 years. Here is the test. Let’s say you miss breakfast and you are very hungry… likely scenario. When you get to work your co-worker has 12 picture perfect donuts sitting next to your desk. Do you have the fortitude to not eat any? That will test your desire. Just about every one falls off the wagon. Test #2, do you get back on?

#2 The simplest dietary advice I can give you… ready…”stay away from sugar”. If you can do this one super basic but incredibly hard thing, you’ll be healthier than most people you meet for the rest of your life. That means no soda, sugar in your coffee, sugary cereal, and the myriad of hyper-sweet beverages and processed foods. Please don’t switch to diet brands filled with aspartame. Given a little time away, your taste buds will revert back to normal.

#3 Do you know how to actually cook? You know… follow a recipe. If you string together fast food stops through out the day, we have a lot of work to do. If breakfast comes in a box, lunch comes with a waiter and dinner in a can, the first thing to do is carve out some time and devote one meal a day to using your stove. If you have no ideas on what to possibly make, send me an email (docaltman [at] gmail [dot] com) with a type of meal you’d like to have.

Sound intriguing? Health is work, but the more skills you have the easier and easier it gets. Get my book for free while you can.
