This has been a wonderful year. I know I have learned a lot and shared a bunch of health tips that I have learned over the year. I never get tired of learning about health. If you’ve learned something cool, tell me here.

Health is the foundation that makes life enjoyable. I’ve seen the devastating effects of health gone bad. Health is a priority and needs to be nurtured everyday. It is the best health insurance you can buy.

Like so many people, life travels quicker than it should. It is easy to take short-cuts and say you’ll do it tomorrow. If you wait ’til tomorrow, you’ve already given up, and the best thing about tomorrow is that it isn’t today. Don’t wait to learn and practice good health.

I’m pretty sure being perfect is off the table. So, what do you do about it? Well, when it comes to health it is very clear to me. You need to supplement for all the microwaved, packaged, fast, frozen, instant, enriched, manufactured food that crosses your lips.

It is very sneaky stuff and can get past your loose lips quicker than you can say “darn you processed food”. It happens, so how do I deal with it?

“I finish the box of crackers”

Ahhh, just seeing if you are paying attention.

I make sure I take at least 3-6 Catalyn (whole-food multivitamin) every day.If you want more recommendations, they are here.

One very profound thing I learned this year was from my wife. This was her story earlier in the year. She was a good example of the dramatic effects that hormone imbalances can have and interestingly those kinds of imbalances are the very first ones to show up with nutrient deficiencies.

So in the spirit of

2010

off -for the first

10

people who order from now ’til Dec. 31st

For the next

20

people, I’ll do $

10

off. I normally don’t do quick discounts, but,”hey” time is running out on 2010 and how many different things can I do with 20 and 10.

If you need help just email. If you need supplements just email docaltman [at] gmail [dot] com or call our web based order line and just leave a message, 612-BE-GREAT (612-234-7328.

The cool thing about technology is that it makes it easy to tell when people order.

Think about how the new year can be a more healthy year. I’m pondering making another abbreviated exercise program. Take a quick little survey for me if that sounds like a good idea.

Enjoy,Dr. Altman

This isn’t an ad or promotion for a lotion or a drug to reduce acne. I know there are many such companies that would love to keep their skin care products selling. But, here is one simple truth that your dermatologist would rather not share about how to reduce, and maybe eliminate acne.

Acne is an inside problem, not an outside one. This epiphany alone could remake your whole idea of health.

It is a reflection of an imbalance in

  • Diet
  • Hormones
  • Cleanliness (not what you think)

Let’s start with some basics. The skin is your largest organ and as such, has an important role. It serves many purposes from protection to temperature regulation to even vitamin D production.

There is one unique feature that gets lost sometimes in the hoopla over diet. The skin needs fats to be healthy. It is the fat layer that makes it water repellant and helps regulate what comes in or stays out.

A large quantity of “partially hydrogenated oil” actually can make your cell membranes dumb.It creates chinks in the armor. It takes work and label reading to stay away from these toxic oils, but it is very much worth it. It you want to add vibrance and life to your skin, add some omega-3 fatty acids.

The skin also serves as a secondary detoxifying organ,

which means the more junk foods you put in, the harder it is on your body to get rid of. The crud will get pushed out your skin if you eat, breathe, or drink more toxins than your liver and kidneys can get rid of.

If you decrease the sugar intake alone from soda, most people can make tremendous strides. Sugar is the most common culprit in acne.

Keeping a clean diet will go a long way.

On that same note, drinking water will help flush the extra junk through your system. Think of it this way, you don’t wash your car with soda.

The hardest one to control for is a hormonal imbalance. This is often a contributing factor, and not necessarily the main factor. The hormonal imbalance is often accentuated by nutritional deficiencies, especially a low-fat diet.

Huh?

No fat, no hormones.

Hormones are made from fats, and the more good fats you have in your diet the easier it is for your body to make the hormones it needs.

Some simple steps:

  1. Eat a more organic diet.
  2. Stop sugar intake, especially soda.
  3. Eat good clean fats / oils.
  4. Less junk food overall

Some basic supplements we use:

  1. Wheat Germ oil-from Standard Process
  2. Zymex -from Standard Process
  3. Catalyn -from Standard Process
  4. Flax oil or cod liver oil, or Tuna oil

If you want more info about how or why I use these, just leave a comment.
