“Foods given to babies are less nutritious than 10 to 20 years ago,” Dr. Samuel S. Gidding.  He also states, “By 19 months of age, on any given day, one-third of toddlers eat no fruit, and french fries are the most commonly consumed vegetables.   These practices are providing poor nutrition and causing kids to be overweight at their 2 year old check-ups.”

The real impact of heart disease is coming in early death to our kids.

Dr. Gidding reminds parents that it is important to model healthy behaviors for their children by exercising regularly, eating healthy foods during family meals, and not smoking.

How do you prevent heart disease?

An international survey (27 countries) was released in September, 2005, stating that the bigger your waist size, the more your odds are of having a heart attack.  They also found that only about 60% of doctors knew that.

I was at the pool a few weeks ago and was amazed at the size of the waistline there.

From Professor Sidney Smith of the Geneva-based World Heart Federation; “Measuring waist circumference is a very important measure for cardiovascular risk…it is an easy, low cost indicator that should be added to measurements of their cardiovascular risk factors such as blood pressure, lipid levels, and blood glucose.”

  • A waist size of 35 inches for women and 40 inches for men in North America puts them in a high risk category for heart disease.

Abdominal obesity also has been linked to type-2 diabetes and increased blood pressure.

  • “Avoid saturated fats”, “Limit cholesterol”, Use Poly unsaturated oils”, “Avoid Red meat”, “Don’t eat egg yolks”, “restrict salt”, you’ve heard it all before.

Every year since they started these recommendations heart disease has gotten worse.  There is no stopping the heart disease juggernaut with those kind of recommendations

  • FACT: More than 60% of people with heart attacks have normal cholesterol

  • FACT:  50% of all heart attacks victims have none of the standard risks (obesity, smoking, genetics, high cholesterol)  Their heart attack is their first sign of heart problems.

  • Cholesterol isn’t the evil monster coming to get you in the middle of the night.

Stay tuned for more really cool info on heart disease that I know you haven’t heard.  I know that is a bold statement, but I’m pretty confident I have a few aces up my sleeve.  There is a new revolution in heart disease and you can be on the front lines.  It will likely be a series of articles.  Enjoy your eggs tomorrow morning.

Here are the nuts and bolts of what I’d like you to learn from Bruce West’s newest newsletter. If you would like the whole newsletter just click the PDF file below.

Bruce West Newsletter PDF

Flu Shots Do Not Prevent Pneumonia

The facts show that flu shots don’t lower the risk for pneumonia, “whether you get the shot before, during, or after the flu season.

The 2007-2008 season was a complete failure for the flu vaccine.

The Lancet Aug 2, 2008 studied the real numbers of flu cases with an adjusted analysis. This analysis factors in other chronic diseases and impairments. The result: The same number of people got the flu that got the shot and those who didn’t.

If you would like to look at prevention. Immuplex from Standard Process and Cod liver oil are on the front lines. If you happen to fall ill, we add 2 Congaplex every hour. There is a chewable congaplex for kids also.

Estrogen and Breast Cancer

We learned the hard way that estrogen causes cancer-especially breast cancer. That little discovery was made when women STOPPED taking the hormone pills meant to “help” them from their medical doctors.

Also reoccurance of cancer rates also go up with high levels of estrogen. That is also despite treatment with Tamoxifen.
In this study, which was not a Big Pharma study, they recommended that women who have been treated for breast cancer they “should reduce blood estrogen by exercising and keeping weight down.”

These are good but not enough. (Dr. Altman-John Lee M.D. first talked about this method of estrogen elimination through diet) Diet… Diet… Diet the primary loss of estrogen is through the liver’s detox mechanisms. The main fuel for this type of detox is kale, broccoli, brussels sprouts and other veggies. These are not main staple veggies in most households. If that is your case, Standard Process makes Cruciferous Complete, which is the whole vegetable processed without heat, chemicals, or freezing to maintain the natural life force of the plant. Don’t be fooled by other whole food supplements.

A study at Metametrix confirmed the estrogen removal of Cruciferous Complete with 3-4 daily at 500% greater than normal. Bonus: No nasty side-effects

Comprehensive Spine Care

“Your spine is critically important to you. It holds your head up, and protects your nervouse system.”

This came from an ad for a spine center of “experts” who truly understand spine and spine care. The commercial went on to talk about how comprehensive their treatment was.

(Dr. Altman- BULL, after thousands of back pain patients, I can tell you that you will never get a comprehensive look at back pain until you see a chiropractor. Medical “experts” don’t look at misalignments as a problem or do they know how to see them on x-rays or feel them on a patient. I was at a seminar last week with a fabulous neurosurgeon speaking about the latest and greatest in surgery and all the “medical” stuff they do. He made a draumatic mistake. He admitted that he had on / off again back pain. One of the other seminar attendee’s said “why don’t you go tho your wife’s chiropractor?” His answer was he doesn’t have time because he has kids. He had never been to a chiropractor and he was considered “friendly” to chiros. There is definitely no one right solution for all types of back pain, but unless you go and see a chiropractor “more than once” you haven’t got a comprehensive picture of your back pain.)

Back to Bruce West…”More than half of all spine problems result from a vertebra or a rib being knocked out of place, which requires an adjustment to put it back.”

Drug for back-pain are a dead end
Surgery fares not much better

Pain = problem (pure and simple) The longer it goes on the longer it can take to resolve.

Cholesterol Drugs For Kids

Pure lunacy has started. It is hard to bite my tongue on this one. This alone qualifies Drug companies as evil and sinister, preying on children. Instead of pumping kids full of useless drugs it would be nice if they supported parents in education and feeding kids real food. The typical American-kid diet is filled with artery-clogging processed food, including bad fats. Kids need healthy fats for brain and hormone development. Taking a statin drug will disrupt that process. If any “doctor” recommends cholesterol drugs for your kid, read the full PDF version of this newsletter.

The Evil Trans Fats

Early Puberty For All
Artificial exposure to chemicals and fake hormones are creating chaos with our kids.
-Hormones in food
-Pesticides
-BPA in Plastics (Yale School of Medicine, “there is a concern that BPA can cause developmental problems in the brain and hormonal systems of infants and children”
-Soy foods
-Dental sealants
-Milk with RBGH (hormones)

Avoid Food Irradiation

Irradiated foods only benefit the growers and packers, NOT YOU. It encourages poor quality standards that irradiation can cover up. It destroys even more precious vitamins that Americans need.

Speaking English can Kill You.
Very funny end to the newsletter that I’ll let you discover on your own.

Enjoy,
Dr. Altman (bonuses at the bottom)

Fun Fast Fat Facts
The Four F’s of Survival.
For those of you who aren’t Biology majors.
Most people need more fat in their diets.

I get this question almost every week so I thought I’d make it easier for you to use and see. I will put a list here first then explain more at the end.

Good Fats:
These are the easiest to obtain and use
1. Butter
2. Lard
3. Extra Virgin Olive oil (Not “Pure”)
4. Coconut oil
5. Cod Liver oil (not for cooking)
6.
Flax oil (just don’t cook with it)
7. RAW milk or cream (Not pasteurized)

If you have these go ahead and use them
8.
Beef, chicken, goose or duck fat
9. Palm oil, sesame oils
10. Flax oil (just don’t cook with it)

Bad Fats:
Unless you are fond of cancer, heart disease, or immune system problems don’t use these oils.
1. Any “hydrogenated oil” (margarines, shortenings, etc.)
2. Any “vegetable” oil
3. Soy oil
4. Corn oil
5. Safflower oil
6. Cottonseed oil
7. Especially Canola oil
8. Sunflower oil

So what’s the difference?

The first list is a list of natural occurring fats that have been around forever and used by every healthy population that ever existed before ours. You might be thinking that there are some pretty natural things on the “Bad” list. It’s true, if you drive around Minnesota or Iowa you will find lots of corn and soybeans. Yes, they are natural but they have other properties that make them undesirable.

The 3 main problems with the “Bad” list:
They are either
1. Heavily processed (that nasty hydrogenation)
2. Man-made (canola)
3. Or high in omega-6 fatty acids. (all of them)

Omega 6 fatty acids promote pain and inflammation. All of the patients I see don’t really need any more of that. The three easiest ways to control pain are taking omega 3 fatty acids, chiropractic adjustments, and water.

Lets explore the good fats.

This is the credits for a medical book I have from 1944. Here is something to ponder, there are 12 pages dedicated to Rheumatic fever and one page and one page only dedicated to a “coronary thrombus”. That’s it. Not once does it ever mention cholesteol, fats, or any other of the nonsense we are bombarded with. Why because heart attacks weren’t the main cause of death back then. If you go back even further to the 1920’s or before there is almost no mention of heart attacks.

What I found fascinating as a chiropractor is the book actually puts more emphasis on the nervous system control of the heart as a cause of problems than on heart attacks. Interestingly enough a medical doctor back in the 1920’s did over 200 autopsies and everyone of the ones who died of a heart attack had a rotting nerve going back to a curve in the spine. Chiropractic has always been more than a way to control pain and joint damage. It is a way to stay healthier, naturally.

Here is a good quote from the book “There is always a certain proportion of such people in any population. They are frequently classified as having real heart disease or as having thyroid disease, or tuberculosis, or as simply being neurotic.”…”When these symptoms are present, rest, recreation, exercise increased gradually and carefully, and attention, to the general health should restore the patient to normal.”

Notice that it didn’t say jack these suckers up on medications and they had some heart drugs back then as well. Also note that they should return to normal. As Bruce West would say, not to become a cardiac invalid. That being said, people are much more unhealthy now than before so there is some important emergency and short term use for medications.

I hate to be the logical one but if we stop and think. “Thinking” doesn’t factor into much in the way of health anymore. What did people eat primarily until about the 1950’s? Eggs, bacon, steak, RAW milk, veggies, butter. People ate food from animals and the earth and heart disease was almost non-existent. HMMM. Now people are told to eat 6-11 servings of processed grains a day and heart disease and cancer are uncontrollable. People are told to stay away from the very foods that got us here. I guess this is our way of population control.

One more added note about “good fats”. They should be from good sources. The animal fats should come from hormone and antibiotic free animals. Grass-fed would also be best. Also organic would make a significant difference for any of the fats.

Some bonus material on fats
1. Fats slow down the absorption of carbohydrates, thus making then good for diabetics and basically everyone else eating the food pyramid.

2. Fats are the backbone of your hormones. No fats, No hormones

3. Fats are needed for mineral absorption on the guts.

4. Fats help you absorb vitamins A,D,E, and K

5. Saturated Fats are stable to cook with unlike vegetable oils

6. Artery clogs are actually only 26% saturated fats the rest being unsaturated.

7. If you are still concerned about cholesterol you really, really need to read “The Cholesterol Myth”

One of the BEST Book dedications

To mothers and fathers everywhere who are struggling to understand why their children…

can’t learn

can’t cooperate

can’t relax and enjoy life

Or why their teenagers are…

defiant

angry

depressed.

So what book is that from??

The Crazy Makers– How the Food Industry Is Destroying our Brains and Harming Our Children”

by Carol Simontacchi

One other quote I thought you might like

It’s so simple, so simple. If your child has a hard time falling asleep or staying asleep, cannot concentrate in school or at home, has low grades in school, suffers from allergies, is prone to headaches, is hyperactive or listless, is overweight, cannot go more than four hours without eating, has a hard time keeping friendships, or has colds or bacterial infections more than once a year, I suggest that you remove sugar (all forms) from his or her diet for two weeks… Once sugar has been removed from the diet, energy levels increase, concentration levels become stronger and self-esteem improves.”

–Nancy Appleton, PH.D.

Brains don’t grow from air, even if their learning environment is rich. They grow from nutrients, provided in the diet.” -The Crazy Makers

Kids eat what you feed them”–Dr. Altman

If my kids turn their noses up at a meal my wife prepares. They go hungry. Generally they realize there isn’t anything else coming and they eat. If you give kids the choice of what they eat, guess what? They will pick the sweetest and most unhealthy thing every time. The older your kids are the harder this will be, but it is still your job to be the parent and guide them to a good diet. I’ve met kids with a diet of 5 things. That is an incredible disservice to the children. It is hard to change but you can do it for your kids.
