Nearly everyone loves bread. I have one older patient that literally could not conceive the idea of not eating bread for her morning breakfast. Whether it is pasta, bagels, cereal, or toast in the morning, grains are a part of nearly everyone’s life. This isn’t a lecture on “to eat or not to eat” we need to talk about what can happen if you eat grains.
If you grind your grains and bake your bread within a few hours, this doesn’t really apply to you. For most of you, this can make a big difference in your life especially if you have:
- Heart problems
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Blood sugar problems
- Any nerve problems
Here is the problem with any grain in a box, bag, or behind the counter, it has been refined, even if it is organic. The B vitamins in grains are very perishable and they are removed to give the product a longer shelf life. Oh no! Your body needs those vitamins to work. The food “manufacturers” have devised a plan to fool you. They spray some artificial vitamins on the “food” to give you the feel good illusion of extra vitamins or “fortified”. If it says “fortified” you are getting artificial vitamins.
Like all things artifiical, they aren’t good for you. The fake vitamins don’t work like real vitamins and cause more problems than if they hadn’t fortified the food. Hey doc, how do you know? Well, glad you asked. Back in the 1940’s a lady named Agnes Faye Morgan did some experiements with dogs. I know, it is sad, but they did stuff like that back then. She gave one group real food, one group nothing, and one group food with artificial vitamins. Guess which group died first? You’re right, the fake vitamin group.
So here is the deal. The majority of people eat bread and similar grains and by default most people have B vitamin deficiencies.
