It has been a while since I have written.  I have a good reason.  I have been working on a secret project that has the ability to guide you through being healthy.  More on that later.

Since I have been maintaining our exercise site I have noticed some general questions about computers.  Technology is amazing but it has its flaws once in awhile.  Since we have videos and more there are occasional problems.  This is the technical side of good computer habits and a little fun.  I spend a lot of time online and love it, but caution is always necessary.

I know most of you run antivirus and antispyware.  If you surf more than a week or two without scanning your computer you will most likely pick up something.  It always surprises me how much junk I pick up just doing basic research and daily internet stuff.  I still wonder how that gets in the computer.

One software program that has literally saved me from having to reformat my computer is Malwarebytes .  Get this and scan your computer.

Most casual computer users don’t spend a lot of time worrying about this stuff but left unchecked Windows will eventually choke your computer.  An awesome utility that we use weekly is Glary Utilities .  This program can help you clean up the mess on your computer with one click.  That’s the way I like it.  It can also find those lost files hogging space on your hard drive, plus, it will defrag your registry to speed your computer up.

If you Defrag your whole computer every month it will perform much better.  We use a nifty program called SmartDefrag .

This is a neccessity if you have sensitive data on your computer or you have a laptop.  When you delete things they aren’t really deleted they are just hidden.  So if someone swipes your laptop they could easily get files or passwords etc…  If you need to delete a file, ERASE it with Eraser .

BTW don’t let your computer or browser store passwords or CC# or anything else of value.  Computer ID theft is rising, don’t be an easy vicitim.  If you are online you are vulnerable, just try and make it harder.

Understanding security could take a small book.

Note for GMAIL users:  Most online pros have at least one Gmail account.  You can up the security by switching from http to https.  S stands for secure connection.  The kind of connection your bank uses.  Go to settings and scroll to the bottom, set it for “always use https”

Note for Firefox users and really all browsers.  Clear your private data after each internet session, especially the cookies.  Go to tool the click “clear private data”.  This will keep the tracking cookies down.  It is creepy to think people are watching everything you type in.  Cookies are neccessary to go to many websites, but make sure you clear them when you are done.

If you find this helpful, please send this to your friends, and let me know because there is so much cool stuff the computer can do.  I update this kind of new stuff on our Twitter page, so don’t be afraid to follow me.  I learn the most about the internet through Twitter.  I check and use Twitter much more than Facebook.
